Co-Op Opportunity at Applied Medical

Hello Engineering Students!

Applied Medical, a medical device company, is currently looking for engineering students for their co-op position.  Please see below for an overview of the position and scroll down for a link to the position and application!

Junior Engineer Co-op

As a Junior Engineer Co-op, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

Understand and comply with Applied Medical’s Quality Systems (QS), safety rules, and company policies.

  • Support engineering teams in product development and production.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate engineering projects.
  • Perform analysis, testing, and troubleshooting of devices, electrical systems, and components.
  • Review and assess non-conforming materials.
  • Develop and update engineering documents (instructions, drawings, test methods).
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform evaluations, process capability studies, time studies, and cost analysis.
  • Write and execute test protocols, conduct testing, and analyze data trends.
  • Ensure compliance with Design Control procedures.

Position Requirements:

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Currently enrolled at UCI in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent field.

Understand technical reasoning, prototyping, and manufacturing processes.

  • Learn new products, processes, and design control procedures quickly.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written analytical, problem-solving, communication, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate computer skills, including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Demonstrate originality, ingenuity, and integrity.

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Experience in manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding extrusion, and stamping.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Exposure to the medical device field and design control procedures.
  • Experience with assembly and testing of finished devices and hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, including Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing (SAP) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications.
