Attention all engineers! The UC Irvine Solar Airplane team is now recruiting new members to join our team for the 2025-2026 academic school year. We will be designing and manufacturing a solar-powered UAV with two given mission statements: to create a solar airplane (UAV) that proves the viability of solar power as an energy source, and to provide assistance in humanitarian aid efforts with the on-board camera.
Last year, the team designed, built, and successfully flew a solar-powered plane entirely from scratch. Using data and observations from the previous plane’s flight, this year’s iteration features a dual-wing (tandem) design and better solar panels for optimized efficiency. Next year, there will be a focus on implementing innovative plane concepts to better improve the flight time duration, as well as introducing exciting technologies for wildfire emergency relief. All undergraduate engineering majors are encouraged to apply!
