ASCE Environmental Design Officer Apps due This Friday, 4/25
Hello! The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Environmental Design Team has officer positions for the 2025-2026 school year!
Our team researches and develops a water filtration system and represents UCI at the ASCE Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS) every year. Earlier this month, we competed and placed 3rd out of 12 schools — we’re striving for 1st next year! It’s a great way to get hands-on project experience for hydraulics, water quality testing, water treatment, technical writing, etc. It is especially aligned with environmental and water resources engineering!

ASCE Environmental Design Team ’24-’25
Design/Build/Fly at UCI Applications are Open!

Design/Build/Fly (DBF) at UCI is recruiting for the 2024-2025 school year!
DBF is an international competition hosted annually by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The competition requires student teams to construct an RC airplane capable of completing missions based on optimizing flight parameters centered around a real-world theme. For example, the past competition involved carrying fuel tanks and deploying an autonomous glider.
DBF at UCI is a year-long senior design project that offers critical design and fabrication experience. Our team is currently looking for Mechanical and Aerospace majors from all years. Students will contribute to the design of different subsystems of the airplane, including the wings, tails, fuselage, and any special subsystems for next year’s ruleset. In addition, we are seeking skilled student pilots to fly our plane. The project concludes with a 4-day competition in Wichita, Kansas, in April 2026.

Brief interviews will be conducted online shortly after the application deadline. Additional information will be provided in a follow-up email to qualified applicants.
Students are welcome to apply regardless of prior experience, though any relevant skills are a plus. Again, students of all years are encouraged to apply.
Note that this is a 3-quarter commitment, and members can qualify for MAE 93 or MAE 151A/151B credits.

The UCI Rocket Project Solids team is a highly selective engineering design project specialized in and dedicated to solid propellant-based rocketry. Our team, having already successfully launched and recovered a rocket that reached 10,000+ ft. apogee, is finishing this year’s rocket to compete in this year’s International Rocketry Engineering Competition (formerly known as the Spaceport America Cup). Attention all engineers! The UC Irvine Solar Airplane team is now recruiting new members to join our team for the 2025-2026 academic school year. We will be designing and manufacturing a solar-powered UAV with two given mission statements: to create a solar airplane (UAV) that proves the viability of solar power as an energy source, and to provide assistance in humanitarian aid efforts with the on-board camera.
Last year, the team designed, built, and successfully flew a solar-powered plane entirely from scratch. Using data and observations from the previous plane’s flight, this year’s iteration features a dual-wing (tandem) design and better solar panels for optimized efficiency. Next year, there will be a focus on implementing innovative plane concepts to better improve the flight time duration, as well as introducing exciting technologies for wildfire emergency relief. All undergraduate engineering majors are encouraged to apply!
