SWE Inside Scoop on Engineering Volunteer Promotion

Hello! Are you interested in volunteering opportunities? SWE at UCI is hosting a virtual event for incoming freshmen and transfers to get the “Inside Scoop on Engineering”. We are looking for volunteers who would like to discuss their experiences as engineering students and answer questions that incoming students may have.

This event will be on Tuesday, May 6th from 4:00-5:30 PM on Zoom. We are hoping to get volunteers from a variety of years and majors to get as many perspectives as we can!

Project Description:
The UCI Rocket Project Solids team is a highly selective engineering design project specialized in and dedicated to solid propellant-based rocketry. Our team, having already successfully launched and recovered a rocket that reached 10,000+ ft. apogee, is finishing this year’s rocket to compete in this year’s International Rocketry Engineering Competition (formerly known as the Spaceport America Cup). Solar Airplane 2025-2026 Recruitment

Attention all engineers! The UC Irvine Solar Airplane team is now recruiting new members to join our team for the 2025-2026 academic school year. We will be designing and manufacturing a solar-powered UAV with two given mission statements: to create a solar airplane (UAV) that proves the viability of solar power as an energy source, and to provide assistance in humanitarian aid efforts with the on-board camera.

Last year, the team designed, built, and successfully flew a solar-powered plane entirely from scratch. Using data and observations from the previous plane’s flight, this year’s iteration features a dual-wing (tandem) design and better solar panels for optimized efficiency. Next year, there will be a focus on implementing innovative plane concepts to better improve the flight time duration, as well as introducing exciting technologies for wildfire emergency relief. All undergraduate engineering majors are encouraged to apply!

Please view the positions brochure for information regarding each sub-team/position, and complete the application form by Friday, May 16th (end of week 7) to be considered for the team during the 2025-2026 academic school year.

Rotorcraft Workshop #5 – VFS at UCI

The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) at UCI is thrilled to announce the fifth installment of our Rotorcraft Workshop Series! This ongoing series is designed to give undergraduates an introduction to rotorcraft design, technology, and industry, with insights directly from professionals working in the field.

In this session, we’re pleased to welcome Dr. Sergio Cecutta, Co-Founder & Partner at SMG Consulting LLC, who will be covering:

–  AAM Industry Insights
–  Advanced Rotorcraft Technologies
–  Career Opportunities

Sergio has been involved in the AAM industry since its early days and brings extensive experience from his work on programs like the Airbus A380 and Gulfstream G500/600. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering and an MBA, and has supported numerous companies with strategy, M&A, and market analysis. As a previous executive at Honeywell, Sergio has since founded SMG Consulting, a consulting firm specializing in the aerospace, defense, and autotech industry.
